Hello all my Guests!
I want to share my experience from Alaska. First I want to thank Aris Brimanis for inviting me to Alaska and arranging Skating Clinic and all other events including USA Hockey Coaching Clinic, where I got a lot of information and great experience about modern coaching and latest news in ice hockey. This trip was good to share experience and ideas between different parts of world to become more knowledgeable, also create new connections for future.
Skating Clinic went very productive in those four days. It was three different age groups. U- 12/U-14 and U-11/U-13 groups with 35 players per group had four powerskating sessions, where we worked on coordination, edge control, strides, acceleration and agility at the end, and U-10 group had two powerskating sessions where we focused on balance, coordination and edge control. I think players that was in Aris Brimanis and Ansis Straupe Skating Clinic after four days looked one level up – better on skating, which means they improved their skating skills and will feel more comfortable on ice than before. I wish You good season and attitude to focus on small details and technique every day to reach Your big goals!
One of my greatest inspirers of powerskating is world famous powerskating coach Laura Stamm! She recorded video cassettes about powerskating which once I was watched and tried to learn in ice hockey camps when I was 15 years old. But now I met her in Alaska after 12 years as a powerskating and hockey coach, and that was big pleasure. Laura Stamm has big part in my powerskating knowledge education!
Me and Aris had invitation to do one training for NAHL team Kenai River Brown Bears in Alaska, Kenai. It was nice to meet the team. Everyone was very friendly and I think we did our mission well – „inducing new blood“ with European skills and different style of coaching to give a different experience. We did some powerskating for coordination, edge control and agility from begining of practice. Then Aris gave very intense shooting skills and at the end we worked on timing and flow. Big thanks to Kenai River Brown Bears for the friendly attitude!
Great experience I got by running powerskating lesson for ECHL team Alaska Aces, where I was invited by Alaska Aces head coach Rob Murray. I think they had fun, I had fun and we spent great time. Another day I watched the game which was fast and energetic in USA hockey style. Thank you Alaska Aces, was pleasure to skate with You!
Alaska is very exotic for me, especially, because first time I was outside Europe borders. The nature is fantastic and people are friendly, so I will be glad to return next time!
